Krieger picks Chawinga or Shaw to win the women's Ballon d'Or

The past two months have proven that African women's football has moved beyond the era of Nigeria's near-monopoly, and the continent's stars in the NWSL and UEFA WCL shone at the Women's AFCON to prove it.

Kansas City Current forward Temwa Chawinga says individual awards are no longer enough, with the two-time NWSL MVP setting her sights on the one prize still missing from her NWSL collection, a Championship win.

Temwa Chawinga has urged her Malawi teammates to 'fix their minds' and put their Women's Africa Cup of Nations final heartbreak behind them in order to do themselves justice at the FIFA Women's World Cup next year.

Cameroon won their first ever Women's Africa Cup of Nations title by dismantling Malawi 3-0 in Rabat on Sunday, with three goals coming during a one-sided first-half display.

Malawi, ranked 153rd in the world, have reached the 2026 WAFCON Final in their tournament debut.

Appointed barely six weeks before the tournament, Valentine Nguele and Dimitri Lipoff have overcome the odds in taking Cameroon to the WAFCON final.

Cameroon's breakout star Michaely Bihina is unfazed about the prospect of testing herself against the lethal Chawinga sisters when the Indomitable Lions face Malawi in Sunday's unexpected WAFCON final.

Tabitha Chawinga scored twice and her sister Temwa added another as Malawi wrote another chapter in their remarkable debut Women's Africa Cup of Nations run, as they defeated Algeria 3-1 to reach Sunday's final.

Here are ESPN's predictions for the two WAFCON semifinals -- Morocco vs Cameroon, and Algeria vs Malawi.
